About Stockton

MidMo_Hammons#B1B1Stockton is one of Missouri’s most beautiful Ozark communities and lake areas. We offer not only friendly people, but a quiet, cozy, town with great schools and a 25,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers impoundment – Stockton Lake.

Stockton, the county seat of Cedar County, was formed in 1846, and first platted as Lancaster. The name changed to Fremont in 1859 and later Stockton in honor of Mexican War Commander, R.G. Stockton. Stockton has two major manufacturing facilities – Hammons Products Co., the world’s biggest producer of black walnuts, has kept the world supplied with black walnuts for over 75 years.  Superior Gearbox Company has been manufacturing high quality gear drives for power transmission systems since 1975.

Great local restaurants, lodging facilities, and activities throughout the year make Stockton a vacation destination you shouldn’t miss. The pristine waters of Stockton Lake offer outdoor recreation for camping fishing, skiing, horseback riding, hunting, CourthouseWEBscuba diving and much more. Three area marinas – Stockton State Park, Mutton Creek and Orleans Trail – offer a variety of camping facilities, food, boat rentals and other outdoor recreation accommodations. The rocky bluffs offer a resplendent backdrop for a day of sailing on one of the top 10 sailing lakes in the nation.

If you’re into canoeing, the beautiful Sac River – which flows from Stockton dam to the mouth of the Osceola River – offers a clean, leisurely float and some great fishing opportunities.

Along with water activities, the Stockton area provides a prime location for great Missouri wildlife hunting, quiet and challenging trails and a beautiful place to call home.

Stockton is a great place to visit, work, play and stay.
